Ein deutsches Requiem
by Johannes Brahms
World premiere
Length: approx. 80 minutes
On Good Friday 1868, the premiere resounded in the St. Petri Dom Bremen: the composer Johannes Brahms personally conducted A German Requiem, which immediately met a great
response due to its interdenominational character. Now the work returns to St. Petri – as a cross-genre Bremer co-production between Tanztheater, Opera, Cathedral Choir and the Philharmonic
Orchestra directed by Markus Poschner. The dancers follow the tracks of the comforting music and plumb extraordinary perspectives of the sacred space.
Choreographer Urs Dietrich, known for his poetic textures composed of dance, music and film, has produced numerous solo and group dances, and had been the director of the Bremer
Tanztheater since the 2000 season. Markus Poschner, celebrated for his exciting Brahms interpretations, was appointed musical director in Bremen in 2007, triggering an audience boom with his
programmatic treading of borderlines.
