Helena Waldmann (Germany)
revolver besorgen
Length: 60 minutes
Public talk after the show at KUBO
”The Berlin-based choreographer is a stage magician, she is aware that a piece will only be successful if it caters to a play with illusions.” Stuttgarter Nachrichten
”Powerful images and touching verbal material leads to a beautiful insight here.” Nachtkritik.de
”As always, Waldmann finds intelligent and clearly contoured images for what she wants to narrate.” Süddeutsche Zeitung
She marches up accompanied by musical volleys: Brit Rodemund, former soloist with the Deutsche Staatsoper, dancer of the year 2011. She dances figures from classical-romantic ballets such as
Giselle – and suddenly tiptoes to the brims of memory. Communication with her father suffering from dementia inspired dance director Helena Waldmann to this equally startling and
liberating-cheerful solo revolver besorgen: ”I always thought: It is not my father who through forgetting founders on the conventions, but the conventional that is increasingly
inadequate for him.”
For twenty years, political interrelations have been the driving force for Helena Waldmann. In her radically conceived works, she lived with veiled women in Iran, interviewed
women living in exile in Europe, or organised festivities as an antidote to our labour society.
