What is needed to repeat something? Catherine Diverrès senses longing as a driving force as well as a feeling for duration and gravity. There is a certain humility in ”continuing”, in the effort
made, in the struggle against exhaustion. But there are also moments of weightlessness, poetically hovering between waning and destroying. From baroque figures to strict abstractions,
encor moves forward into increasingly silent depths – through dreamlike images to an endless expanse full of moments of déjà vu and associations.
Catherine Diverrès ranks among the major artists in France who have decisively renewed modern dance since the 1980s. Trained by Maurice Béjart and Kazuo Ohno, the long-standing
director of the choreographic centre in Rennes has until now produced more than twenty works employing her own, highly unique language.
